Out of the mouth of babes...

"When my mom and dad tell me to do something and I do it I will grow up to be a better woman."

-Rose

These words were written in my seven year old daughter's journal. She reads her journal to me every night, something I think is very innocent and sweet. This particular entry made me proud. She gets it! When she asks, "Why do I have to do that?" or "Do I have to?" I usually answer her with something like... "Because you will want to know how to cook for your own family one day", "Because it's the right thing to do", "It makes you stronger" or "These are the things I wish I learned to do when I was little, to make me a better wife and mommy when I got older." Yes, I'm sure some folks might find my comments old fashioned but I don't mind. I'm proud of the job I do as a wife and mom and I want to teach her everything I have learned along the way. I look forward to the many years ahead that I have to teach her things that she will grow into. Some things she learns now, others I am saving for when she gets a little older and things I hope to tell her on her wedding day. Now, I say 'her' because she is the one that wrote this in her journal but my feelings are true for all of our children. I want to leave a legacy with our kids and I want to teach them everything I can. I can't seem to find the right words for what I want to say here... I guess the bottom line is that I love my kids and I want to do everything I can to prepare them for life. But, most importantly, I want them to feel secure about where they come from and confident about themselves and their abilities.
